Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 12:48 PM MDT Aug. 19, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect from 11 am PDT /11 am
MST/ Tuesday to 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/ Thursday...

* temperature... high temperatures around Las Vegas, Pahrump and
the morongo basin on Tuesday will range between 105 to 110
degrees. On Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will range
between 108 to 113 degrees. Temperatures in Death Valley
National Park and in the lower Colorado River valley will
range from 113 to 121 degrees.

* Impacts... heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and
heat stroke will be possible. People most vulnerable to heat
illnesses include those who spend lots of time outdoors, those
without air conditioning, Young children, the elderly, and
those with chronic ailments.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions... if you work or spend time outside. When
possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur... creating a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely if precautions are
not taken. Drink plenty of fluids... stay in an air-conditioned
room... stay out of the sun... and check up on relatives and
neighbors.
