Watches & Warnings

Beach Hazard Statement, Coastal Hazard Statement
Issued: 4:39 AM EDT Sep. 16, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement remains in effect through this
evening...
... High rip current risk remains in effect through this evening...

* locations... in South Carolina, coastal Horry and coastal
Georgetown. In North Carolina, coastal Pender, coastal New
Hanover and coastal Brunswick.

* Timing... through this evening.

* Surf zone impacts... very strong rip currents will be dangerous
to anyone who enters the surf. Additionally, northeasterly winds
15-25 mph will produce a strong left to right longshore current
at all of our area beaches.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents, longshore currents, and other hazards create life-
threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution should be used
when in or near the water.

If you become caught in a rip current,Yell for help. Remain calm,
do not exhaust yourself and stay afloat while waiting for help.
If you have to swim out of a rip current, swim parallel to shore
and back toward the beach when possible. Do not attempt to swim
directly against a rip current as you will tire quickly.
