Issued: 4:15 PM CDT Oct. 20, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 7 PM MDT /8 PM CDT/
this evening...

* what... sustained northwest winds as high as 35 to 45 mph and
gusts ranging from 55 to 65 mph.

* Where... Cheyenne and Sherman counties.

* When... from noon MDT /1 PM CDT/ today to 7 PM MDT /8 PM CDT/

* Impacts... high winds may down trees, power lines, and damage

driving conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

* Additional details... blowing dust will drop visibilities locally
to as low as three miles. This may create hazardous driving
conditions.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The Kansas department of health and environment recommends that
you take preventative measures during this blowing dust event...
such as staying indoors or wearing protective breathing masks if
outside. High dust concentrations can cause respiratory
problems... decrease lung activity... aggravate asthma... and lead
to potential heart-related problems... especially with children...
elderly... or those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around
trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of
your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if
you must drive.
