The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
northwestern Rice County in central Kansas...
southwestern Ellsworth County in central Kansas...
eastern Barton County in central Kansas...

* until 900 PM CDT.

* At 759 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Claflin,
moving north at 10 mph. This warning replaces the previous warning
that was in effect for Rice... Ellsworth and Barton counties.

Hazard... 70 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

Source... radar indicated.

Impact... hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable
           tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to Mobile homes,
           roofs, and outbuildings.

* Locations impacted include...
Hoisington, Ellinwood, Claflin, Holyrood, Bushton, Lorraine,
Susank, Cheyenne Bottoms and Odin.

... Heat advisory remains in effect from 1 PM this afternoon to
9 PM CDT Tuesday...
... Dense fog advisory will expire at 9 am CDT this morning...

* heat index values... up to 108 expected.

* Timing... this afternoon through early evening hours today and
Tuesday.

* Impacts... the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat
illnesses are possible. In addition, temperatures can turn
deadly in vehicles left unattended with no air conditioning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early
morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose
fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is
expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity
will create conditions where heat illnesses are possible. Drink
plenty of fluids and stay in an air conditioned room if possible.
Stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Temperatures within vehicles can become lethal in a few minutes.
Never leave children or pets in vehicles. Remember to beat the
heat, check the backseat.
