Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:43 PM CDT Jun. 18, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
eastern Sedgwick County in south central Kansas...
Butler County in south central Kansas...

* until 1030 am CDT Wednesday.

* At 1035 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated the thunderstorms that
occurred earlier this evening produced as much as 3 to 4 inches of
rain in far eastern Sedgwick and western Butler counties.
Scattered thunderstorms have redeveloped over central and southern
Butler County and are likely to cause further flooding.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Wichita, Derby, El Dorado, Andover, Haysville, Augusta, Park city,
Valley Center, Bel Aire, Mulvane, Rose Hill, Maize, Douglass,
Sedgwick, Towanda, Benton, Leon, downtown Wichita, Kechi and
Eastborough.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 135 between mile markers 0 and 22.
Interstate 35 between mile markers 34 and 78.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding!

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads, especially at night!

Please report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you
can do so safely.

This Flood Warning replaces the Flash Flood Warning that had been
issued for these areas at 525 PM CDT this evening.
