Beach Hazard Statement
Issued: 1:12 PM PDT Aug. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Beach hazards statement in effect from late Saturday night
through Tuesday morning...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
beach hazards statement for surf and coastal flooding outlook,
which is in effect from late Saturday night through Tuesday
morning.

* Hazards... a southeast swell from Tropical Storm Ivo may bring
high surf, dangerous rip currents, and localized coastal
flooding Sunday through Tuesday. Stay tuned for more details as
we approach the event.

* Potential impacts... increased risk for ocean drowning.
Innundation of sea water over vulnerable low-lying coastal
areas such as beach parking lots, roads, and walkways.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A beach hazards statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents... longshore currents... sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Swim near a
lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.
