Watches & Warnings

Heat Advisory, Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 2:15 PM CDT Aug. 20, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 9 PM CDT this
evening...
... Heat advisory now in effect from noon to 9 PM CDT Wednesday...

* event... hot and humid conditions will continue today and
Wednesday.

* Areas affected... much of Arkansas.

* Temperature... highs will be in the 90s, with heat index values
from 100 to 110 degrees. Heat indices are expected to approach
or exceed 110 degrees in many locations Tuesday afternoon.

* Impacts... hot weather will increase the risk of heat related
illness, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke. The very
Young, the elderly, and those without access to air
conditioning will be especially vulnerable.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

If you must be outdoors, the occupational safety and health
administration recommends taking frequent rest breaks in shaded
or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should
be moved to a cool and shaded location. If heat stroke is
suspected, call 9 1 1.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous
situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of
fluids... stay in an air-conditioned room... stay out of the sun...
and check up on relatives and neighbors.
