The National Weather Service in Boston/Norton has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Washington County in Rhode Island...
western Newport County in Rhode Island...
Kent County in Rhode Island...
southeastern Providence County in Rhode Island...
western Bristol County in Rhode Island...

* until 1100 PM EDT.

* At 759 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain moving through Rhode Island. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2
inches per hour will cause significant flooding of urban areas,
including streets, underpasses, and other poor drainage areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, East Providence,
Coventry, North Providence, South Kingstown, West Warwick,
Johnston, North Kingstown, Newport, Bristol, westerly, Portsmouth,
Barrington, Middletown, Narragansett, Seekonk and East Greenwich.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or occurring. Do not
drive through roads or underpasses that are flooded. Avoid flooded
areas near small streams and move to higher ground immediately.
