Watches & Warnings

Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 3:14 AM CDT Jul. 19, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM CDT
Saturday...

* temperature... high temperatures in the middle 90s to low 100s
will combine with humid conditions to bring afternoon heat index
values into the 108 to 114 degree range this afternoon and into
the 103 to 110 degree range for Saturday afternoon.

* Impacts... heat-related illnesses are possible for those
spending a prolonged amount of time outdoors or those who are
more susceptible to heat, such as Young children and elderly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of
dangerously hot weather is expected, during which heat illnesses
are likely. Stay in an air-conditioned building and check up on
relatives and neighbors. Postpone any non-essential outdoor
activities planned during the midday and afternoon. If outdoor
activities are necessary, drink plenty of water, wear light and
loose fitting clothing, reduce strenuous activities, and take
frequent breaks. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a
cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency, call
9 1 1.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
