Watches & Warnings

High Surf Advisory
Issued: 4:12 AM PST Dec. 14, 2019 – National Weather Service

... High surf advisory remains in effect until noon PST Sunday...

* what... large waves of 6 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents,
peaking this morning. Minor beach flooding.

* Where... Ventura County coast, Los Angeles County coast and
Catalina Island. Highest surf across exposed west facing
beaches.

* When... through noon PST Sunday, peaking this morning.

* Impacts... there is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip
currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large
breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and
rocks, and capsize small boats near shore. Minor flooding of
sea water over beaches, around the time of high tide Thursday
and Friday.

* Additional details... west swell direction. Largest high tides
near 6.5 feet (mllw) around 940 am this morning, lowering to 6.2
feet on Sunday with high tide around 1030 am.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing localized beach erosion and
dangerous swimming conditions. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught
in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the
current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If
unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
