The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of south central Arizona, including the following
areas, Aguila Valley, Apache Junction/Gold Canyon,
Buckeye/Avondale, Cave Creek/New River, central Phoenix, Deer
Valley, Dripping Springs, Fountain Hills/East Mesa, Gila Bend,
Globe/Miami, Mazatzal Mountains, New River Mesa, north
Phoenix/Glendale, northwest Pinal County, Pinal/Superstition
Mountains, Rio Verde/Salt River, San Carlos,
Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, Sonoran Desert National Monument,
South Mountain/Ahwatukee, southeast Gila County, southeast
valley/Queen Creek, Superior, the East Valley of the Phoenix
Metro area, the northwest valley of the Phoenix Metro area,
Tonopah Desert, Tonto Basin, and west Pinal County.

* Through this evening

* periods of showers and scattered thunderstorms will affect
south-central Arizona through this evening. The strongest cells
will be capable of producing areas of heavy rain, which could
lead to flooding of washes and small streams, along with
localized urban flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that flooding of washes, creeks and
other drainage areas is possible within the watch area. If you
are in the watch area, you should watch the weather and be
prepared to take immediate action should heavy rain and flooding
occur or a Flash Flood Warning be issued.

... Significant weather advisory for Maricopa County until 1230 PM
MST...

At 1206 PM MST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Sun City, moving northeast at 30 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with this storm.

Locations impacted include...
Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, surprise, El Mirage, Youngtown, Sun City
West, Sun City, New River, Deer Valley Airport, downtown Peoria,
surprise stadium, arrowhead mall, Lake Pleasant, vistancia and
anthem.

This includes the following highways...
AZ Interstate 17 between mile markers 212 and 229.
US Highway 60 between mile markers 140 and 151.
AZ Route 101 between mile markers 8 and 28.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm, and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
