Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 12:54 PM AKDT Oct. 19, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect from late Monday night through
Wednesday evening for the Kenai River below Skilak Lake...

The Flood Watch continues for

* the Kenai River below Skilak Lake.

* From late Monday night through Wednesday evening.

* Skilak Glacial Lake began releasing water on Wednesday Oct 16th.
Based on the history of these types of events, water levels at
Kenai River below Skilak Lake could rise to minor flood stage of
13-feet between Tuesday midday and Wednesday afternoon, which
would result in localized flooding of low lying areas. Water
levels farther downstream from Skilak Lake will likely only
reach bankfull or a bit above, so flooding is less likely.

* Expected impacts: localized flooding of low lying areas is
possible along the Kenai River below Skilak Lake only.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding.

You are encouraged to closely monitor this weather situation.
Preparation for this potentially dangerous weather event should
begin now.
