... Expect black ice across parts of Vermont tonight...
Temperatures will be falling below the freezing mark across much
of Vermont between 8:00 PM and midnight tonight. Wet roadways
still exist over all but parts of northwest Vermont. Drier air
will not make it into Vermont until the early morning hours. Thus
with the falling temperatures and wet pavement black ice is
expected to develop as the night wears on. The greatest area of
concern for black ice appears to be south and east of Burlington
and most notably across central and southern Vermont. This is
where observations continue to indicate wet roads and pavement.
Please use caution when traveling across portions of Vermont
tonight and into the early morning hours as black ice is expected
to form.

... Icy spots developing this evening and into tonight...
Across central and northern Vermont, a cold front will usher in
much colder temperatures this evening. As temperatures fall below
freezing between 6 and 9 PM, any areas of standing water will
rapidly freeze, creating icy spots on roads and sidewalks. For
those traveling, use caution tonight as black ice can be difficult
to spot, especially at nighttime.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Temperatures are above freezing... but sharply colder temperatures
following today's snow melt will cause any water or slush to
quickly freeze on roads and sidewalks this evening. Untreated
surfaces will become extremely slippery and offer little or no
traction. Reduced speeds and greater distance between vehicles is
advised.
