Watches & Warnings

Areal Flood Watch, Areal Flood Advisory
Issued: 5:56 AM EDT Oct. 17, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Friday morning...

The Flood Watch continues for

* southern Vermont, the Berkshires, and most of eastern New York
excluding Ulster and Dutchess counties.

* Through Friday morning.

* Storm total rainfall of 2 to 3 inches with isolated 4 inch
amounts will occur across the region through today. Rainfall will
continue to be heavy at times into this morning, resulting in
rising water levels on area streams and rivers and some minor
flooding. Also, flooding could occur in low lying areas of poor
drainage and where storm drains are blocked from fallen leaves.
Some Road closures will be possible.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

439 am EDT Thu Oct 17 2019

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

* flood advisory for...
Albany County in east central New York...
northeastern Greene County in east central New York...

* until 730 am EDT.

* At 437 am EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
minor flooding in the advisory area. One to three inches have
fallen, and another inch or so is possible in the advisory area.
Some ponding of water on roadways and street flooding is possible.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Albany, Cohoes, Watervliet, Rensselaer, Colonie, Delmar, Latham,
Guilderland, Menands, New Baltimore, Westerlo, Ravena, Coxsackie,
Berne, Voorheesville, Altamont, Athens, Loudonville, Selkirk and
Preston-Potter Hollow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

A flood advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.
