Flood Warning
Issued: 10:12 AM CDT May. 25, 2019 – National Weather Service

The Flood Warning continues for
the Missouri River at Leavenworth.
* Until Saturday June 01.
* At 9:00 am Saturday the stage was 22.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 25.8 feet by
early Sunday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage early
Friday morning.
* At 25.1 feet... water overtops the levee north of Fort Leavenworth.
* At 23.4 feet... the hildebrandt island north of Fort Leavenworth
begins to flood and families in this area need to evacuate.
* At 22.3 feet... water enters Riverfront Park in Leavenworth. In
addition, 2nd street at the waste water treatment plant is closed
due to high water. Persons should vacate the park to avoid the loss
of life and property.
* At 20.0 feet... lowland flooding occurs along the east and west
banks of the river.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Missouri River at Atchison.
* Until Tuesday June 04.
* At 9:47 am Saturday the stage was 25.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 22.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 28.1 feet by
early Sunday afternoon. The river will fall below flood stage
Monday morning.
* At 27.0 feet... River Road in Atchison floods and levees on the
Missouri side of the river are overtopped. If the river remains
above 27 feet for several days then U.S. Highway 59 and large
portions of the floodplain in Missouri flood.
* At 25.0 feet... a castings plant in Atchison is affected by flood
waters.
* At 22.0 feet... low-lying areas on the Missouri side of the river
begin to flood.

* From late tonight to Wednesday afternoon.
* At 9:30 am Saturday the stage was 30.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Sunday morning and continue to
rise to near 34.6 feet by early Monday morning. The river will fall
below flood stage by Tuesday afternoon.
* At 32.0 feet... minor flooding outside of levees occurs.

the Missouri River at Parkville.
* Until Friday afternoon.
* At 9:45 am Saturday the stage was 27.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 31.3 feet by
Sunday evening. The river will fall below flood stage Thursday
afternoon.
* At 28.0 feet... water reaches the bottom of the south Main Street
bridge and a signficant portion of English Landing park floods.
* At 24.0 feet... backwater floods a low-water bridge along White
Branch at McAfee street in Parkville.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Platte River near Platte City.
* Until further notice.
* At 8:48 am Saturday the stage was 24.6 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue to fall to a stage of 23.0 feet
by Sunday morning.
* At 22.0 feet... flooding occurs at Humphreys access area which is
located 5 miles downstream from Platte City. 300 acres of pasture
are also flooded.
* At 20.0 feet... cropland near State Highway 92 near Platte City
begins to flood.

* Flood stage is 26.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... the river will continue rising to near 30.3 feet by
early Wednesday morning. The river will fall below flood stage
Thursday morning.
* At 29.0 feet... backwater from the Platte River floods Highway kk
along the little Platte River at the location 0.2 miles east of
Highway b.
* At 26.0 feet... low-lying rural land along the river begins to
flood.

* Flood Warning for
the Missouri River at Kansas City.
* From late Tuesday night to late Saturday night.
* At 9:30 PM Monday the stage was 26.2 feet.
* Flood stage is 32.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by Wednesday morning and continue
to rise to near 34.7 feet by early Friday morning. The river will
fall below flood stage by early Saturday morning.
* At 32.0 feet... minor flooding outside of levees occurs.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Kansas and Missouri, including the following
areas, in Kansas, Atchison KS, Doniphan, Johnson KS,
Leavenworth, Linn KS, Miami, and Wyandotte. In Missouri,
Adair, Andrew, Atchison MO, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell,
Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Gentry,
Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Jackson, Johnson MO, Lafayette, Linn
MO, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, Putnam, ray,
Schuyler, Sullivan, and Worth.

* Through Sunday morning

* additional storm development is possible late this afternoon
into the evening hours. An additional one to two inches of
rainfall are expected through Sunday morning, with locally
higher amounts possible. These storms will produce heavy
rainfall over areas that are already saturated from recent
storms.

* Low-lying and flood-prone areas will be most susceptible to
the dangers of flash flooding. Areas near rivers, creeks, and
streams will likely become flooded during and immediately
after heavy rainfall. Be very careful if driving at night as
flood water are very hard to see.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
