Excessive Heat Warning
Issued: 4:16 AM EDT Jul. 21, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this
evening...

* heat index values... up to 109 due to temperatures in the upper
90s, and dewpoints in the lower to mid 70s.

* Timing... dangerous heat and humidity today. The worst of the
heat will be from late in the morning through the mid evening
hours.

* Temperature... actual air temperatures will reach the mid to
upper 90s, with a few spots may reach 100 degrees.

* Impacts... the heat and humidity may cause heat stress during
outdoor exertion or extended exposure. Young children and pets
should never be left unattended in vehicles under any
circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot
weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a
matter of minutes.

* Location... Rhode Island, northern Connecticut, and most of
Massachusetts including the Metro areas of Boston, Providence
and Hartford. This area does not include Cape Cod and the
islands.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
