Areal Flood Warning
Issued: 10:20 PM CDT Aug. 25, 2019 – National Weather Service

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
central Sumner County in south central Kansas...

* until 415 PM CDT Monday.

* The Slate Creek across Sumner County is expected to exceed flood
stage overnight through Monday, due to heavy rainfall that
occurred Saturday night and Sunday morning. The 10 PM Sunday river
level was close to 19 feet. A forecast crest level and time is
unknown, although major flooding is not expected at this time. The
Kansas Turnpike is not expected to flood. At 20 feet, flood waters
cover several low-lying spots along Seneca Road between 40th and
60th street just southeast of Wellington. Also, Woods Park in
Wellington floods.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

The Flood Warning continues for
the Chikaskia river near Corbin.

* From late tonight until late Monday night.
* At 7:30 PM Sunday the stage was 5.7 feet.
* Flood stage is 10.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast... rise above flood stage by early Monday morning and
continue to rise to near 11.1 feet by Monday morning. The river
will fall below flood stage by Monday afternoon.
* Impact... at 10.0 feet... flooding of low-lying areas can be expected,
especially along the right bank.
