In 1987, a winter storm packing heavy snow and high winds
hit much of the southern rockies and the southern High
Plains. Hardest hit was New Mexico where most of the
state was buried by 2.5 to 3 feet, primarily in the
higher elevations. Winds around 75 mph, with gusts that
nearly reached an incredible 125 mph, roared just
northeast of Albuquerque New Mexico.
