Winter Storm Warning
Issued: 2:50 PM MST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 8 am MST
Tuesday...

* what... moderate to occasionally heavy snow showers and blowing
snow occurring. Plan on difficult travel conditions, including
during the evening commute. Additional snow accumulations of 4
to 8 inches, with localized amounts up to 15 inches, are
expected.

* Where... northwest San Juan Mountains and southwest San Juan
Mountains.

* When... until 8 am MST Tuesday.

* Additional details... winds gusting as high as 60 mph will
cause widespread blowing and drifting snow.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow and blowing snow means severe
winter weather conditions are occurring. If you must travel, keep
an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an
emergency. The latest Road conditions for the state you are

Avalanche Warning
Issued: 9:03 AM MST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

The following message is transmitted at the request of the
Colorado avalanche information center.

An avalanche warning is in effect for the south San Juan Mountains

* timing... began at 06:00 am on Monday 2/19/2018... expires at 8:00
am MST on Tuesday 2/20/2018.

* Affected areas... this warning includes... the San Juan
Mountains... the La Plata Mountains... Needle Mountains... and
Grenadier Range.

* Avalanche danger... is high (level 4 of 5)near and above treeline

* reason... snowfall and strong westerly winds will overload our weak
snowpack and result in large natural and human triggered
avalanches in many areas.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions... avalanche conditions are very
dangerous. Human triggered and natural avalanches are likely
travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
