Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 2:36 PM PST Feb. 17, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 6 PM Sunday to 3 am PST
Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a
Winter Weather Advisory for snow, gusty winds, and icy Road
conditions which is in effect from 6 PM Sunday to 3 am PST
Tuesday.

* Snow... accumulations of 1 to 3 inches expected, with highest
amounts expected on north facing slopes. There is the potential
for 1 to 2 inch of snow accumulations on Interstate 5 near the
Grapevine.

* Snow levels... snow levels will initially begin around 6000 feet
Sunday evening, falling rapidly to between 1500 and 2500 feet
early Monday morning continuing through Monday night.

* Winds... areas of northwest to north winds 25 to 35 mph with
gusts to 50 mph, except isolated gusts to around 60 mph near
Whitaker Peak. Strongest winds through the Interstate 5
corridor.

* Wind chill... this unusually cold air mass combined with strong
winds could bring very cold wind chill readings between -10 and
10 degrees across portions of the mountains, including the
Interstate 5 corridor.

* Impacts... delays or closures on Interstate 5 are possible
Monday into Monday night due to the potential for accumulating
snow, icy Road conditions, and strong winds. Due to the low snow
levels, other low elevation roadways will be at risk for snow
showers and icy Road conditions, including highways 2, 14, 33,
and 39. The unusually cold wind chill readings will bring an
increased risk for hypothermia, especially at the higher
mountain elevations.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be prepared for snow covered and icy roadways with limited
visibilities. Use caution while driving. Check the latest Road
reports before departing. Be prepared for longer travel times
with potential Road closures. Keep an emergency kit in your
vehicle which includes a flashlight, food and water, extra clothes
and blankets, and tire chains.
