Blowing Dust Advisory
Issued: 9:02 AM MDT Jul. 22, 2019 – National Weather Service

... Blowing dust advisory in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
10 PM MST this evening...

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a blowing dust
advisory, which is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to 10 PM
MST this evening.

Later this afternoon and evening, the threat for a dust storm will
increase as winds from distant thunderstorms will be capable of
generating blowing dust.

* Where... portions of south central Arizona. The Interstate 10
corridor between Phoenix and Tucson, and Interstate 8 between
Casa Grande and Gila Bend, may be the most susceptible areas to
dense blowing dust.

* Visibilities... below 1 mile for many locations. The potential
for visibility below one-quarter mile may also happen.

* Winds... outflow winds from thunderstorms may reach 35 mph and
locally 55 mph closer to thunderstorms.

* Timing...

* impacts... hazardous driving conditions when visibility is
limited. Outdoor activity should also be limited.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be ready for a sudden drop in visibility. If you encounter
blowing dust or blowing sand on the roadway or see it
approaching, pull off the Road as far as possible and put your
vehicle in Park. Turn the lights all the way off and keep your
foot off the brake pedal.

Remember, pull aside, stay alive.
