Blizzard Warning
Issued: 1:49 PM AKST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Blizzard Warning remains in effect until midnight akst Tuesday
night...

* what... blizzard conditions and high winds expected. Travel
will be very dangerous to impossible. Damage to power lines is
possible. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are
expected. Winds gusting 50 to 60 mph.

* Where... Baldwin Peninsula and Selawik valley.

* When... until midnight Tuesday night. The strongest winds are
expected Tuesday.

* Additional details... winds gusting as high as 60 mph will
cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Significant
drifting of the snow is likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions, making travel extremely dangerous.




Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 1:42 PM AKST Feb. 19, 2018 – National Weather Service

... Coastal flood advisory remains in effect from 6 am Tuesday to
6 am akst Wednesday...

* location... along the coast from the Bering Strait to Point
Hope.

* Coastal flooding... minor flooding of low lying areas is
possible.

* Timing... Tuesday and Tuesday night.

* Impacts... high water may push into low lying areas such as the
lagoons at Shishmaref, Deering, Kotzebue and Kivalina. Ice may
push onto the beach along the coasts. At Kotzebue, this could
impacts housing next to The Lagoon, as well as dog lots on the
east side of town.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.
