Synopsis...
today will be cool and showery. A few afternoon thunderstorms will
bring the potential for periods of brief heavy rain to portions of
central and eastern Washington. Periods of showers will linger
over the Idaho Panhandle Thursday and Friday. Our best shot of a
dry day region-wide will be Saturday before the arrival of
another moist frontal system on Sunday.

Discussion...

As of 11 am, bands of rain continue to slowly pivot through north
central and northeast Washington as well as the Idaho Panhandle.
So far east of the Cascades, Okanogan County has received the
heaviest rain with this system. The Omak area, Okanogan Valley,
and the surrounding high terrain have received rain amounts
nearing an inch. Through early afternoon, we expect the greatest
concentration of rain bands of rain across northeast Washington
and the north Panhandle. The models also suggest widespread
rain across northeast Oregon, the southern Idaho Panhandle, and
possibly far southeast Washington along a slow moving front.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in
areas of clearing in the Columbia Basin, around Wenatchee, and
the Waterville Plateau. Brief heavy downpours will be possible as
well as cloud to ground lightning with these slow moving cells.

Aviation...
18z tafs: precipitation is expected to become showery by early
afternoon in central Washington as well as the Spokane and Coeur
D'Alene areas. Widely scattered thunderstorms may also be embedded
within clusters of showers. Thunderstorms will be added to tafs
through amendments given their highly scattered nature. For
Lewiston and Pullman, several models prog several hours of rain
this afternoon along a front extending across eastern Oregon into
the Idaho Panhandle. /Gkoch
