Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Sioux Falls South Dakota
313 PM CST Fri Nov 22 2019

Short term...(this evening through saturday)
issued at 311 PM CST Fri Nov 22 2019

A quiet night in store across the region with only a few high clouds
streaming over the region. It will be a milder night in a
transitioning southwesterly flow as a surface trough begins to push
into the area overnight. Low temperatures will be a good 10 degrees
warmer than this morning, only bottoming out in the 20s.

The surface trough pushes through the area on Saturday, with winds
becoming northwesterly and picking up a bit. Little in the way of
cold air advection behind the trough/boundary, and thermal profiles
will actually continue to moderate with highs in the 40s to near
50.

Long term...(saturday night through friday)
issued at 311 PM CST Fri Nov 22 2019

Sunday will be the warmest of the next several in a transitioning
westerly upper level flow. A shortwave/frontal boundary sweeps
across the area during the day, though will not produce much more
than a few clouds. Highs look to range from the upper 40s to upper
50s.

Upper level energy swings through the northern plains on Monday,
drawing cooler air into the region with highs mainly in the 40s.
This will be the lead in to cooler air across the region through the
Holiday week. Still watching the potential for snow over the parts
of our area on Tuesday as a southern stream wave drifts across the
Central Plains. At this point the majority of models keep it well to
our south, though the European model (ecmwf) is farther north and would suggest the
possibility of snow in our County Warning Area south of Interstate 90.

An upper level ridge builds into the region for Wednesday/Thursday
of next week as an upper level trough deepens along the West Coast
of the U.S. During the period. While Wednesday looks dry, there
remains uncertainty for Thanksgiving with model differences.
